Attend an Orientation
The orientation is an informal meeting for you to learn the Resource Family Approval (RFA) process, ask questions and make a decision about becoming a Resource Family.
Orientation meetings are held on Thursdays and once a month on Saturday. Please call (916) 641-0661 to RSVP.

Home Environment Assessment
A home visit is scheduled with you for a home health and safety assessment.

Criminal Background Check
Live scan process through the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau Investigation and Child Abuse Index. Each adult in the home must be willing to submit to a background check

Complete an Application
An application will need to be completed that includes information about your family, family history, and the reasons you are interested in becoming a resource parent.

Permanency Assessment
Social workers will make several visits to your home to discuss your lifestyle, personal history, family dynamics and home setting.

Training
Attend a series of training classes. You will also be required to complete Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First-Aid Training.

Approval
You are ready for a child to be placed in your home.

Placement
You will begin to receive children into your home.
